Player name: Muzy
Characters played: Elisha, Zoe, Ben, Avery, Jordan, Briony, Alasdair
Character Name: Dillon Gabriel Blake Huntly
Age: 24
How long They've Been in the Deck: 24 years
Suit/Rank: Five of Hearts
History: Born in Town to Lucien and Olivia Huntly, Dillon grew up not in the Castle like his cousins Zoe and Edie (and Edie's sisters Kathryn and Cordelia) but at Huntly House, a rambling mansion in the Heart District, with his parents, two sisters, and his grandparents, Simon and Jessica Huntly.
Unlike his cousin Zoe, Dillon was never pushed towards a Face position - his parents aren't particularly ambitious, though they are high-ranked - but he was always expected to do well, and he did. He got good grades in schools, played sports and made friends, and was, like many of the other members of his family, a highly talented musician who taught himself the guitar. His real gift was his voice, however, a warm baritone that rivaled his aunt Charlotte's somewhat legendary soprano, and it was considered to be a smart decision when he announced he wanted to go to college for music, Outside.
Going Outside for school was a bit of a trick, though, requiring forgeries and invented records - not to mention entrance interviews and auditions - so Dillon was a little past eighteen when he left the Deck for the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and already a Four of Hearts even then. That was a rank he maintained and then advanced from as he study composition and vocal performance in Boston, and by the time he graduated with his graduate degree a year ago, he came home a Six with every intention of going higher.
Unfortunately, Dillon's challenge to Seven against Nicholas Landau didn't go as planned, with Nicholas winning the composition for solo guitar contest and Dillon staying at Six. Losing in something he'd studied for years, that he was considering extraordinarily good at, was a serious blow - but he would have recovered from it quickly enough if an enterprising Five - Alessandra Carroll - hadn't decided to seize the opportunity and challenge Dillon in chess.
He wasn't a very good chess player, honestly; he'd always kind of hated the game, and if his pride hadn't already been bruised from the situation with Nicholas, he would have probably suggested something else. But he didn't, and he subsequently dropped down to Five, a rank he hadn't held since he'd been twenty - and despite assurances that it was a minor setback from family and friends, Dillon moved out of the Castle, into the apartment over Heartsong - the family music store - and started working behind the counter there, neither recording nor playing music as much as he had before and with no apparent plans to try challenging again.
Recently a few people have begun to wonder if there's more to this new quiet life than just licking his wounds - Dillon was always one to bounce back, after all - but he shrugs it off.
Personality: Dillon can best be described as steady. He's a relatively calm sort, not really given to huge bursts of emotion and seems - though he denies it - to be mildly depressed. Something of a slacker these days, he doesn't really seem to have a life plan in mind beyond working in the family store; when people ask him about it, he shrugs and says someone has to manage it someday.
Behind the calm facade, though, he's pretty dissatisfied with his life. This isn't how he planned things to go; it's not what he wanted to do, and while intellectually he realizes that it's in his power to change that...he can't bring himself to. His confidence is shaken by the pair of losses, and he doesn't want to try a challenge again and fail miserably. It's easier and safer to be a Town-dwelling Five and just sing and play for friends.
Since he's the only boy in his family, Dillon has a tendency to be very protective of the ladies in his life - particularly his sister and younger cousins. He's one of the few who has an inkling how bad his aunt Charlotte was to Zoe, and when he was twenty came home for a weekend to move his cousin out of her mother's direct sphere and into his own apartment in the Castle. He's not terribly thrilled that he came home from school to find her tangled up with Victor Fox, and he's even less thrilled that they're getting married. The same holds true for Edie and Alasdair - he's got a tendency towards frowning at Alasdair DeWitt for having upset (and still upsetting) Edie. His sister Sara and cousin Cordelia are just not allowed to grow up ever, and that's final.
He tends to be something of a slob, and lives alone with his corgi, Collin. And yes, he is prepared for all the Dillon & Collin jokes you can come up with.
Appearance: Relatively tall and lean-tending towards skinny (he's been forgetting to eat on an entirely regular basis, though not enough for people to really notice), Dillon has dark curly hair like most of his family, but is lacking the bright blue eyes that characterize most Huntlys. Instead he's inherited his Italian mother's dark eyes and complexion. He dresses casually most of the time, tending towards jeans and t-shirts with either Chucks or Docs, and looks very much like the kind of guy who would work in a record store.
